Professional qualifications
CAP KA: which services does it cover, and which licence does it require?
CAP KA applies to taxi or NCC services using vehicles that require an A licence; the corresponding A category is also required.
CAP KA is a professional certificate paired with an ordinary driving licence for taxi or chauffeured-hire services when the vehicle requires A1, A2 or A. It is not a standalone driving licence and does not replace the category needed for the vehicle: both the professional certificate and the matching licence are required.
What CAP KA covers
The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) distinguishes CAP types by the vehicle used for the service: KA applies when driving it requires A1, A2 or A; KB applies when it requires B1 or B. The certificate relates to taxi and chauffeured-hire passenger services, not every job involving a motorcycle. Before choosing a CAP, identify the actual vehicle and the licence category required by its recorded class and specifications.
KA adds a professional qualification to the driving entitlement. To apply, you must already hold a valid licence in the relevant category: A1, A2 or A according to the vehicle. The MIT page also lists a minimum age of 21 and an attestation showing successful completion of a first-aid course. Applications go to the Motorizzazione with the required documents; check the current page for forms and administrative steps. A commercial permit or employment with a taxi operator does not remove the driver’s personal qualification requirements.
For example, to drive an NCC vehicle in passenger service that requires category A2, the driver needs A2 and CAP KA, as well as any service-related requirements. If the vehicle requires category B, the relevant CAP is KB, not KA. The service name alone does not determine the certificate: the vehicle category does.
Check before accepting the assignment
Ask the operator which vehicle you will use and check its category and data in the registration document. Compare those details with your licence, then confirm that your CAP type is correct and valid. If the vehicle changes, do not assume that a certificate linked to another licence category is sufficient; ask the competent office how the new vehicle and service are treated.

Frequently asked questions
Can I obtain CAP KA without an A-category licence?
No. The MIT requires a valid A1, A2 or A licence matching the vehicle used for the service.
Is CAP KA required for every job involving a motorcycle?
No. It applies to taxi or NCC passenger services when the vehicle requires an A-category licence. Riding a motorcycle for work alone does not determine the CAP type.
