Professional qualifications
CAP KB for NCC: what does it add to a category B licence?
Taxi and NCC vehicles requiring B1 or B need CAP KB alongside the corresponding licence, with separate eligibility requirements.
To drive a taxi or NCC vehicle that requires B1 or B, the MIT specifies CAP KB together with the corresponding licence. The licence authorises the vehicle; KB is the professional certificate for the service. The MIT page lists a valid matching licence, a minimum age of 21 and a first-aid course among the requirements.
KB is not an automatic extension of category B
CAP, the professional qualification certificate, is paired with an ordinary driving licence and applies to taxi and chauffeured-hire passenger transport. KB is used when the service vehicle requires B1 or B. The MIT therefore requires the matching licence: holding KB does not authorise you to drive a vehicle outside your licence category. Likewise, category B alone does not complete the professional requirements for driving in these services.
The MIT page lists at least 21 years of age, a valid licence in the appropriate category and an attestation of successful first-aid training. After submitting the application to the Motorizzazione, candidates book and take the required examination. Check current documents and requirements before applying, because administrative forms can change. KB concerns the driver’s personal qualification; the service operator’s licence or authorisation and vehicle requirements are separate.
For example, if an NCC vehicle is a car requiring B, the driver needs B and KB for the requirements covered here. If the vehicle is a quadricycle requiring B1, verify that the driver holds B1 with the relevant KB; do not assume category B automatically covers it. The category recorded in the vehicle documents helps determine which licence must accompany the CAP.
Practical checks for the driver
Before starting service, check the vehicle category, your licence, the KB certificate and their expiry dates. Ask the operator which service authorisations and vehicle documents must be carried; the driver’s CAP does not replace them. If the vehicle category or service changes, confirm that the licence and KB still match the new assignment.
Quiz Patente Ufficiale offers chapter-based theory, exam quizzes and error review. It does not issue CAP KB or authorise NCC or taxi work; those steps go through the competent offices.

How old must I be to apply for KB?
The MIT page lists a minimum age of 21 and first-aid training, as well as a valid matching licence. Check current requirements before applying.
