How to renew the CQC
The CQC remains valid through periodic training: check its expiry date, the effective date and the procedure with the competent office.
The CQC is valid for five years. To renew it, you must complete a periodic training course before it expires; renewing your driving licence alone does not update the CQC.
Check the expiry date separately
The Driver Qualification Card is separate from the driving licence and has its own expiry date. The MIT requires periodic training for renewal, usually every five years; the course and update of the records must be completed in accordance with the rules in force. Do not wait until the last day: check the date on your document and ask an authorised provider which route applies to your goods or passenger qualification.
The CQC may expire on a different date from your driving licence. It is therefore useful to set two reminders and check both before accepting a job. If you have completed the course but the document or systems have not been updated, ask the provider and Motorizzazione office how to demonstrate your position and whether you may work professionally in the meantime. Do not assume that enrolling on the course is enough.
The MIT describes periodic training for renewal and updating the new expiry date on the qualification. If the CQC has been expired for more than three years without a course, a review examination may also be required. Check the expiry date and certificate, and book the course in good time.
- Check the expiry dates of your CQC and driving licence separately.
- Book periodic training with an authorised provider.
- Check that the qualification has been updated before returning to professional duties.
Qualification, effective date and delay
The effective date, reinstatement of an expired qualification and any transitional rules may require a specific check. If your CQC has already expired, do not rely on practices reported by colleagues: ask the UMC and training provider which steps are necessary. The procedure depends on the registered information, the type of qualification and the applicable rules. Keep certificates and receipts until the renewal is correctly recorded.
To avoid an interruption to your work, ask your employer to check the qualifications required for your role in advance. Employers can monitor expiry dates, but drivers must ensure their own qualification remains valid. MIT information on the CQC is the reference for national syllabuses and updates.
Planning the renewal
When choosing a course, check that the provider is authorised and that the syllabus matches your qualification. Ask how attendance is reported to the Motorizzazione office and how long it takes to update the document. If your address or personal details have changed, also check that the contact details linked to the qualification are correct so you do not miss updates about your application. If the expiry date is near, tell your manager well in advance.
Quiz Patente Ufficiale offers chapter-based theory revision, timed practice tests and review of mistakes for the driving licence.
