AM practical test: what happens in a closed test area?

The AM practical test follows the official programme on your chosen vehicle; the office explains the arrangements.

In the AM practical test, you show that you can control the moped or light quadricycle selected for the test under the ministerial programme. The organisation may include exercises in a prepared area and a road phase; do not assume every centre uses an identical layout based on one person’s experience. Before booking, the type of vehicle and transmission are selected.

Confirm the vehicle and test organisation

MIT allows the AM practical test on a two- or three-wheel moped or a light quadricycle, approved to carry a passenger in addition to the driver. The candidate indicates the vehicle type and transmission as part of the booking process. Activities and any prepared test area follow the official programme and the office’s procedures; ask your driving school or motor vehicle office which stages apply to your session.

In a closed or marked area, when used, the focus is on controlling the accelerator, brakes, steering and balance in protected conditions. Follow the route and examiner’s instructions without speeding up to imitate another candidate. If stopping, check the available space, use the brakes under control and restart only when your path is clear. The type of exercise depends on the vehicle and current programme.

Example: a candidate using a light quadricycle should not assume it feels like a two-wheel moped. Learn its controls, dimensions and transmission during lessons. If you choose an automatic vehicle, ask whether any licence restriction will apply.

Practise with supervision

Balance, path control and stopping are learned through supervised practice and suitable protective equipment. Do not attempt the test manoeuvres for the first time on exam day. Ask your instructor to simulate the programme and explain how to respond if you leave the line or need to stop an exercise.

Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you revise AM rules and quizzes by chapter and review incorrect answers. It is not a practical course and does not train you to operate a moped or quadricycle.

Quiz Patente Ufficiale offers chapter-based study and quizzes to revise AM rules; practical vehicle skills require lessons with an instructor.
