No. It is not correct to assume every Italian category B practical test must take place on a motorway. Training requirements do not set the test route
The MIT category B page requires a certificate of mandatory driving practice, including night driving and motorway and main extra-urban road sessions, under the applicable rules. This concerns the candidate’s training before the test. It does not promise that the practical exam will include a motorway ramp or that every candidate will drive the same route.
The competent office prepares the route and the examiner may direct the candidate along available roads. The test may include urban, extra-urban or other traffic situations. Do not rely on stories from a previous test at a different location. Before booking, ask the driving school which certificate and paperwork are required and how the local test is organised.
Example: you complete the required motorway sessions, but your exam route stays on ordinary roads. The lessons still prepare you for later driving, including speed, distance, merging and overtaking. The examiner assesses your conduct in the situations actually encountered.
Prepare for different road settings
During practice, learn how to enter and leave high-speed roads, choose a lane, maintain distance and adapt to traffic, always with an instructor and in accordance with the rules. Continue working on priority, pedestrians, intersections and parking in town. One road type cannot replace the ability to observe and decide in every setting.
