Category B practical test: can I correct a poor parking manoeuvre?

You may consider a correction if it is allowed and safe: stop, check the area and move again calmly.

If a parking manoeuvre in the Italian category B test has not gone well, do not react with a sudden turn or reverse. Stop in a safe position, check mirrors, blind spots and clearance, then correct only if the manoeuvre is permitted and does not create danger. The test assesses your conduct; there is no universal rule about a fixed number of corrections.

Stop first and check again

When you notice the car is not centred or is too close to an obstacle, stay in control and stop before the clearance becomes critical. Check that no pedestrian, cyclist or vehicle has entered the area. Look at the front as well as the rear: when the nose moves, it may approach the neighbouring car even if the rear seems clear.

If the space and rules allow it, make a small correction slowly. Before changing direction, check mirrors and blind spots again; do not assume the road has stayed clear while you were stopped. If the correction would take you into traffic without a clear view, wait or ask for guidance. Safety comes before perfect alignment.

Example: while reverse parking at an angle, the rear wheel is close to a line. Stop and assess whether you can move forward slightly without entering the adjacent bay or approaching a pedestrian. If every movement would reduce safety, do not force another correction.

The assessment depends on the whole test

MIT does not set a universal rule that one correction means failure or, conversely, is always irrelevant. The examiner assesses your overall conduct and whether you respected safety and instructions. Avoid seeking a fixed manoeuvre count in online stories: spaces and vehicles differ.

Practise different scenarios with your instructor and ask which reference points work in the exam car. Quiz Patente Ufficiale can help with theory quizzes and error review, but parking must be practised in a car with an instructor.

Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you revise theory and road rules; parking manoeuvres need guided practice with an instructor.

Frequently asked questions

Does correcting my parking always fail the test?

No automatic outcome should be assumed. The examiner assesses the test as a whole; correct only if it is legal and safe.

If the car is crooked, must I correct it at any cost?

No. Stop and check space and road users. Do not move again if it could cause a collision or create danger.
