Learner permit B: which motorway exercises are mandatory?
Ministerial Decree 294/2025 sets out certified exercises for ordinary category B; check current MIT procedures and platform availability.
Decree 294/2025 sets eight hours of exercises for non-special category B, but Article 6 delays its effect until the platform implementation decree enters into force. It applies to learner permits issued after that date.
What the decree covers
The ministerial decree of 17 November 2025, published in the Official Gazette on 23 December 2025, sets eight hours of exercises and certification for non-special category B. However, Article 6(2) delays its effect until the platform implementation decree enters into force; Article 6(3) applies it to learner permits issued after that date.
As of 20 October 2026, the MIT legal-notice section consulted lists the decree but not that implementation decree. Therefore, it is not established that the new eight hours and platform are already mandatory for everyone. Check the official update and the date of your learner permit before arranging lessons; the decree's transition rules apply until the new regime takes effect.
Plan practice separately from theory study
When the new regime is effective and applies to your permit, exercises must be carried out with a qualified instructor and a compliant vehicle, covering the required road types and officially defined night-vision conditions. Completing the hours does not guarantee passing the practical test, which assesses driving skills.
For example, a permit issued before the implementation decree takes effect remains subject to the transition rules in Decree 294/2025, rather than automatically to the new eight-hour course. Check the applicable dates before booking. Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps with exam quizzes and theory mistakes; it does not replace instruction or certify exercises.
Quiz Patente Ufficiale is for exam quizzes and theory review; practical exercises must be completed and certified under MIT rules.
Frequently asked questions
Does the new course already apply to every learner permit?
No. The decree was published, but Article 6 makes it effective when the platform implementation decree enters into force and applies it to permits issued afterwards. Check whether MIT has published that act.
Is one motorway lesson enough?
Do not assume the eight hours already apply to your permit. Check its issue date and whether the implementation decree is in force; the ministerial decree sets transition rules for earlier permits.
